چکیده
Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is a tropical fruit rich in phytochemicals with potent antioxidant anticancer and anti-inflammatory activities. Mango leaves which are often discarded as waste products are also a rich source of bioactive compounds with potential health benefits. Phytochemical Characteristics of Mango Leaves The phytochemicals found in mango leaves include polyphenols flavonoids alkaloids triterpenoids and anthocyanins. Polyphenols such as mangiferin gallic acid and catechins are the most abundant compounds in mango leaves. Mangiferin a xanthone glucoside has been identified as the major bioactive compound in mango leaves with a wide range of pharmacological activities. Health-Promoting Biological Activities of Mango Leaves 1. Antioxidant Activity Mango leaves have strong antioxidant properties due to the presence of polyphenols and flavonoids. Antioxidants protect the body from oxidative stress and reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. 2. Anti-Inflammatory Activity Mango leaves contain compounds with anti-inflammatory properties that reduce inflammation in the body. Inflammation is a natural response to injury or infection but chronic inflammation is associated with many chronic diseases. 3. Anticancer Activity Mango leaves have anticancer potential due to the presence of mangiferin and other bioactive compounds. Mangiferin has been shown to inhibit the growth of various cancer cells including breast lung colon and prostate. 4. Antidiabetic Activity Mango leaves have been traditionally used to treat diabetes in many cultures. Mangiferin in mango leaves has been shown to have hypoglycemic effects and may help regulate blood sugar levels. Conclusion Mango leaves are a rich source of bioactive compounds with potential health benefits. They have been traditionally used in many cultures to treat various ailments. Further studies are needed to explore their full potential as a natural medicine for the prevention and treatment of various chronic diseases.کليدواژه ها
