چکیده
This investigation encompasses a discursive analysis to explore how Iranian EFL learners intentions can be construed in terms of some manifestative tokens they apply such as body movements, gestures, styles and facial expressions during their academic lectures. In other words, the focus of the study is on learners’ iterative creation of gesticulations (McNeill, 2005) while giving a face-to-face academic lecture in an EFL class in order to illustrate how meaning is mediated. In this regard, focusing on Hodge and Kress’s (1988) theoretical framework, which links semiotics to teaching contexts, this research analyzes the co-speech manifestative tokens based on Levy and McNeill’s (2005) scheme. The findings revealed how EFL learners construals during lectures involve a sort of gesticulative mediation between the lecturer s conceptualization and what is expressed to the class audience, and how this mediation facilitates and clarifies the meaning. Finally, some implications for EFL teachers and researchers were proposed in this regard.کليدواژه ها
