Translation Strategies in Translation of Informative Texts through Think Aloud Protocols and Screen Recorder by BA Translation Students

چکیده
This study explored translation strategies by five translation students while translating informative texts. This empirical research applied Think-aloud protocol to gather data by utilizing Bandicam screen recorder. Five BA translation students were requested to translate two informative texts while the Bandicam screen recorder, recorded all their activities. Afterward, the captured videos were analyzed based on the taxonomy model of coding data designed by the researcher derived from Krings (1986) and Gerloff (1986) model although some additional strategies were added due to the combined-nature of the research with the technology and the text type. The strategies were composed of thirteen main strategies of, Unit of Translation(UT), Machine Translation(MT), Machine Revision(MR), Equivalent Retrieval(ER), Problem Identification(PI), CAT Optimization(CATO), Competing Potential Replacement(CPR), Inferencing and Reasoning(IR), Reading the ST(RS), Noting the Potential Problems(NPP), Linguistic Analysis(LA), Revision((R), and Translation Maxims(TM). The results revealed that the participants applied a diversity of strategies in translating informative texts and the subjects used 10 strategies and the most frequent one was Inferencing and Reasoning (IR). They were not sufficiently aware of CAT Optimization. Their reliance on their own knowledge was completely obvious and they did not consider TM in their translation. The results of this study may be effective in preparing programs at colleges to teach translation students in the future.کليدواژه ها
