Philosophy of education as viewed by the stakeholders in Iranian EAP context By: Mohsen Nili Critical English for academic purposes (Critical EAP) is a joint point for English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and Critical Pedagogy, where English language teaching in academic contexts can be more critically investigated. There is scanty research on the critical issues in Iranian academia, which account for the voices of policy makers, teachers and students. In this study, the philosophy of education is the pivotal point as viewed and commented by the stakeholders and as analyzed by the researcher. Students and teachers from the University of Tehran, Sharif University of Technology and Kharazmi University participated in the study. Policy makers, too, contributed by providing their insights. The tools of data collection comprised of a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. Statistical procedures of Chi0square and ANOVA were employed to analyze the quantitative data, while thematic content analysis was the tool for the qualitative data. There were five themes for the philosophy of education in Iranian EAP context: technological and educational development of Iran; the quality of instruction; inclusion of reasoning ability in the textbooks; inclusion of critical thinking and the practice of creative pedagogy in the Iranian textbooks and instruction. The participants believed the following: the present situation of Iranian EAP education does not lead to the development of education and technology in the country; it does not enhance the instruction quality in Iranian universities; it does not account for the reasoning ability, critical thinking and creative pedagogy.کليدواژه ها
