چکیده

Corrective Feedback (CF) can provide the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners with the chance to become aware of their progress before any assessment. However, the findings of the previous studies on the effect of direct focused CF in EFL classes are inclusive. The present study aimed to examine the effect of direct focused CF on students’understanding of phrasal verbs in reading comprehension. To this end, 35 Iranian upper intermediate EFL learners (18 females & 17 males) were randomly selected from a language institute in the city of Shiraz and randomly assigned to one control (n = 16) and one experimental group (n = 19). A quasi-experimental design was used to investigate the effectiveness of direct written CF over three weeks. Independent Sample t-test was run in SPSS (version 22) to analyze the data. The findings showed a significant improvement in the performance of the experimental group, indicating the students who received direct written CF outperformed the students in the control group. Therefore, direct written CF is of high pedagogical value and could promote learners’ grammatical accuracy in L2 reading comprehension.
