Every Student in! Benefits of Inclusion for Non-Disabled Language Learners Participating in Inclusive English Language Classes

With regard to abundant research and debates on inclusive education, seeking for the development and educational growth of disabled learners and their abled peers seems to be an unfinished project, a story looking for an ending that would never arrive. Including learners with disabilities in regular classes has been a growing concern over the past years and the proclaimed principle of inclusion and inclusive education has more highlighted the significance of equal educational access for disabled learners; however, the literature has been less discussed from the perspective of the non-disabled learners attending inclusive classes. To fill this gap, this study aimed to detect the benefits of inclusive education for non-disabled language learners who are learning English language besides their disabled peers. In order to collect the require data and delve into inclusive education, 15 EFL learner were interviewed and five English language classrooms were observed three times a week for 48 90-minute sessions (a total of 4320 minutes). The data collected from observation notes and interview transcripts were combined and then broken down into smaller segments; subsequently, major themes describing benefits of inclusive education for non-disabled EFL learners were extracted. The findings revealed that these learners were in favor of inclusive classes. Accountability, promoted self-esteem, enhanced learning, and increased social interactions were the most frequently self-reported and observed benefits; however, more research is required to determine the exact mechanisms through which inclusive education may impact these variables. The findings are thoroughly discussed and implications and suggestions for further research are also discussed in the paper.کليدواژه ها
