Investigating the Effect of Learner Generated Transcriptions on Pre-intermediate and Intermediate Iranian EFL Learners Listening Comprehension

Language learning involves mastery of four skills, among which listening is the most important one since it is considered as the very primary source of input. The present study aims at investigating the effect of learner generated transcriptions on Iranian EFL learners listening comprehension with a focus on the learners’ proficiency level at two levels of pre-intermediate and intermediate. The participants were 40 EFL learners in two intact groups including 20 intermediate learners and 20 pre-intermediate learners. The instruments of the present study include language proficiency test of PET, and two parallel listening comprehension tests as the pre-test and posttest adopted from PET. During this study the participants listened to clips of 3 to 5 minutes (from Developing Tactics for Listening for the learners in pre-intermediate level and Expanding Tactics for Listening for the learners in intermediate level) every session and at the same time they tried to transcribe what they could hear. After 13 sessions, the participants in both groups were administered another sample of the listening section of PET test as the posttest. One two-way ANOVA was administered to analyze the data. The obtained results revealed that learner generated transcriptions influenced learners’ listening comprehension in intermediate level more than pre-intermediate level.کليدواژه ها
