چکیده

Statement of Problem Long-term or intermittent use of chemical drugs can lead to side effects such as drug resistance. In contrast herbal medicines are gaining popularity due to their potential to combat drug resistance without causing significant side effects. Gingerenone A (GA) is a known bioactive derivative of ginger root which may mimic or even amplify some of the therapeutic characteristics of ginger in clinic. Research Purpose The aim of this article is to collect information on the biological properties of GA and its possible therapeutic effects in various diseases. Research Method All the academic articles and research papers published from 1990 to 2022 regarding GA were collected from PubMed Google scholar and JSTOR and meticulously studied. Results and Conclusion GA shows strong and selective toxicity towards certain types of cancer cells suppressing their growth and survival in vivo. Recent studies indicate that GA promotes antiproliferation and senescence of breast cancer cells induced by oxidative stress. Moreover this derivative destroys senescent cells with high preference giving it a therapeutic property for diseases with high accumulation of aging cells. Alternatively GA may be used for the treatment of obesity through suppressing adipose expansion and inflammation. Furthermore GA overcomes insulin resistance hence introduced as a new antidiabetic agent. Additionally the anticoccidial activity of GA and its antifungal activity against Pyricularia oryzae is confirmed. GA may exert its antibacterial and antiviral properties by inhibiting ATP synthase and JAK2 respectively. Intriguingly GA is introduced as an anti-COVID phyto drug by its high affinity binding to 3CLpro and preventing its activity. In conclusion this study confirms the therapeutic and anticancer value of GA and its beneficial supplementary use in treating cancer and multiple diseases.
