The use of natural antioxidants can be considered the main way to combat free radicals and regenerate damaged cells because they increase the efficiency of the body s immune system against various diseases. Research Purpose Ferulago angulata (Schltdl.) Boiss. is a plant with antioxidant properties and the effects of its effective compounds on free radicals have been proven. In this brief summary we will provide an overview of the botanical characteristics of this species its compounds and the mechanisms of action that make it an effective antioxidant. Research Method Our research primarily involved reviewing available reliable sources and scientific papers. We focused on identifying and analyzing the characteristics compounds and mechanisms of action of the plant as an antioxidant. Results and Conclusion Ferulago angulata (Schltdl.) Boiss. also known as Chavil in Persian is a plant from the Apiaceae family that grows mostly in the Zagros highlands of Iran northern Iraq and Turkey. It is a monocarpic and aromatic perennial plant with a thick erect and sulcate stem basal leaves and small yellowish flowers that bloom between late May and late July. the results confirm that the extract of F. angulata has antioxidant properties which have been demonstrated through animal models. The extract can help to strengthen the body s immune system by applying antioxidant activity in the blood serum making it a potential natural antioxidant supplement for the pharmaceutical industry. The antioxidant activity of F. angulata is attributed to the presence of phenolic compounds flavonoids and certain monoterpenes such as a-pinene b-pinene cis-ocimene and borneol acetate. Phenolic compounds ability to donate electrons is the reason for their antioxidant properties which trap and eliminate free radicals thereby preventing chain reactions.
